MY MAIN STREET SUPPORT
Beacon Bike+Brew is a small, family owned business. And as such we rely on our great customers, community and suppliers. And behind the scenes, we work with community partners providing opportunities to grow our business and support our team.
Working with My Main Street, the Canadian Urban Institute and the Government of Canada we have been able to upgrade key pieces of the business. Working with My Main Street we have been able to replace two key Cafe components; our Espresso Grinder and Shop Grinder. The New Espresso Grinder purchased through Sam James Coffee, funded by My Main Street, is a Mazzer Kold Electric. A faster, quieter Espresso Grinder reducing average shop grind time from 10.5 seconds to 2.5 seconds, meaning faster service and more customers accommodated versus our older Mazzer Super Jolly. The new Shop Grinder, an industry staple, Mahlkonig EK43 purchased through Patera brings a more consistent grind experience for customers purchasing retail bags and for our daily in house Drip Coffee program.
In addition, My Main Street has given us the opportunity to replace an aging oven, and add a new Retail Freezer, allowing us to expand our retail offerings, sourcing many, new local products throughout the year.
Without the support of My Main Street, the Canadian Urban Institute and the Government of Canada these improvements would not be possible. These new items will impact our business immediately and has allowed us to spend money in our community and we are very proud to be a recipient of My Main Street Business Sustainability stream.

Winter can be tough on your bike, but that doesn't mean you should put it away until spring! Proper winter bike maintenance is essential to keep your ride smooth and safe. Keeping your brake cables lubricated will ensure they function smoothly, giving you the stopping power you need in slippery conditions.
Finally, don’t overlook your bike's overall performance. Make it a habit to regularly check the air pressure in your tires, as cold weather can cause it to drop. Additionally, ensure all bolts are tightened and that the bike's frame and components are in good condition. Performing these simple maintenance checks can greatly enhance your riding experience during the winter months. So gear up, get your bike prepped, and embrace the chilly rides with confidence!
